Blog: Steps for Kids
On Sunday May 6, more than 600 community members gathered at Lutherwood’s Children’s Mental Health Centre for a 5 kilometre walk to raise funds and awareness of children’s mental health. Lutherwood’s annual Steps for Kids walk reduces the stigma associated with having a mental illness by increasing awareness and understanding of mental health. By reducing the stigma, the organization hopes more people will reach out for help that can improve their mental wellness.
For nearly half a century, Lutherwood has been providing mental health services to children, youth and families/caregivers as they cope with serious emotional and behavioural challenges. Located at the north end of Waterloo, the Children’s Mental Health Centre houses treatment programs for youth aged 12-18. The youth learn a school curriculum, life skills and strategies and techniques that will help them manage their mental health challenges.
Heartland’s iHeartCommunity Fund provided a $1,500 donation to Steps for Kids that will be used to provide support to Lutherwood’s children’s mental health programs in Waterloo Region.
Heartland is very much committed to the development of our youth and will continue to support them as they grow in to the leaders of tomorrow.
